CHANNEL ARCHIVE
Privacy policy
Effective October 21, 2026 · Version 1.0
Channel Archive is a free browser extension for saving a Discord channel, direct message, or individual thread to a JSON or HTML file. It is developed by placemecto and is independent of Discord and Google.
Data the extension handles
After you click Connect Discord & refresh, the extension observes the sign-in session authorization header from Discord API requests in that tab. It remembers that session only in browser memory and uses it to make read-only requests to the same Discord origin. It does not ask you to type a password or token. Other Discord tabs are ignored until you connect them.
The extension reads the selected channel's URL, ID, name, and metadata to identify your export. When you request an export, it reads the messages available to your account in your selected date range. This can include names, usernames, user IDs, message text, timestamps, attachments and their URLs, replies, edits, reactions, embeds, polls, and other message fields returned by Discord. This information may include personal communications and content provided by other people.
How data is used and shared
Data is used only to connect the Discord tab, retrieve the selected history, prepare the export, and save the file you requested. Authentication is sent only to the same Discord origin over HTTPS. The developer does not receive your messages, session, passwords, exports, browsing history, or usage analytics. The extension has no developer-operated export server, advertisements, tracking pixels, or analytics SDK.
Channel Archive does not sell user data, use it for advertising, or transfer it for creditworthiness, lending, data brokerage, or unrelated purposes. Its use of user data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. It does not use data to train AI models.
Storage, retention, and deletion
Sign-in session authorization and the connected-tab setting are stored in Chrome's memory-only session storage. They are removed when the source tab closes, navigates away from a Discord channel, or the browser exits; an expired session is also discarded when Discord returns an authentication error. Disabling, reloading, or uninstalling the extension clears its session storage.
During an export, messages are temporarily staged in the extension's local IndexedDB database. The extension removes that database after successful preparation, failure, or cancellation. Reloading an interrupted export page retries deletion of its old database. A browser crash can leave temporary data until that page is reopened or the extension's data is cleared. Uninstalling the extension removes its browser-managed storage.
The prepared file remains in memory while its export tab stays open so you can download it again. Closing that tab releases that copy. Downloaded JSON and HTML files remain wherever you save them until you delete them yourself. They contain the selected conversation, are not encrypted by this extension, and do not contain the sign-in authorization header. Uninstalling the extension does not delete your downloaded files.
Links and optional media
HTML exports include links to messages and attachments. Text and search work offline. The HTML file does not automatically fetch attachment previews. Clicking Load linked media requests linked images, audio, video, stickers, and emoji from their original hosts. Those hosts receive normal network information such as your IP address. Clicking an external link opens that site, which has its own privacy practices. Media files are not bundled, and attachment URLs can expire.
Your controls
You choose which tab to connect, the date range, output format, and whether to start or cancel an export. Closing the connected Discord tab clears its remembered session. Delete downloaded files yourself when you no longer need them. You can stop all extension access by disabling or uninstalling it in Chrome's extension settings.
Privacy-policy website
The public copy of this policy is hosted by GitHub Pages. Visiting that webpage involves normal website requests to GitHub, governed by GitHub's privacy statement. The bundled policy in the extension works offline.
